The Risk Of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries

The second son of a marquis without a particular inheritance of his own, Hart didn’t have much to offer Anne when she was sixteen. Her father’s refusal, and his own family’s disapproval, of the match drove him away and into the army, spending six years in India before becoming a spy for England.

Now he’s back, and Anne is still unmarried, still very much an original, and still the only woman he’s ever loved. Winning her won’t be easy, but he’s not about to walk away from her again.

This was a really enjoyable second-chance romance from the queen of Regency historicals. Anne was a delight, with her creative instincts and her fabulous hat collection, and I thought Hart was the perfect foil for her. He really appreciated who she was as a person, loving all the things about her which were unique (and which she thought made her undesirable).

Beautifully written with a charming cast of characters, the only quibble I have with this story is that it was over too soon!
